Hunger Strike

I'm being a brat! Foster Momma says so and I know it.... I've decided that I don't want to eat my kibbles. They are tasty and healthy and Foster Momma assures me just as good as the kibbles the other dogs get, but nope, I don't want my kibbles, I want THEIR kibbles.
My plan so far is to refuse what kibbles I am given, and any chance I get to find leftovers from the other dogs, I'll eat that instead!

Foster Momma is trying hard, she gave me a new bowl, put some chicken soup in my kibbles, and even tried to feed me by hand. But I am stubborn! Ha!
Don't worry, I won't starve, my kibbles are always waiting in my crate if I decide to eat them... But for now, it's a battle of wits!

I wonder who will win....

Me and Beans

Winning Beans over with my charm has been a bit of a tough sell. I know I sometimes get too excited to see her, and maybe throw my big head at her with a bit more enthusiasm that I should.... But today, SHE PLAYED WITH ME!!!

I was a good boy, I watched where I tossed my head and made sure not to jump right on her, and... Well... See!

I <3 Beansie! She's so cool, and plays real fun!

Nurse Eugene

As much as I love BestFriend Quinn and he loves me, the girl dogs are another story. The little one seems to like me fine, but Daphne and Beans still aren't 200%. Foster Momma says its because they've seen LOTS of rescue dogs come and go, so it's my job to win them over.

Challenge accepted!
To make things even trickier though, Foster Momma says Daphne is really hurt, and needs to have a big important surgery to fix her. (poor poor Daphne, she walks funny and we can all tell she isn't feeling well)
So I've decided to make it my job to help make her feel better! I'm lying calmly with her, telling her what's on tv when her eyes get sleepy, and helping to keep her warm!
I'm being the best Nurse and new friend I can be. (I hope it earns me some Daphne likes me points!)

Merry Eugenemas

I don't much like these antlers, but Foster Momma said being festive would make you all smile!

Happy Holidays friends!

B is for BABY!

What an exciting 24 hours it's been friends! First a visit from my Auntie Kara, smoked bones, a SLEEPOVER and then today another new friend, well 3 actually, one of which was a super tiny, super cute little people. Foster Momma said he was a "baby" and to be gentle....
I practiced my best manners. I didn't jump or use my paws near him, I lay down nice so my big head didn't scare him. And he wasn't, so I even got to KISS HIM!!! (little people babies are so soft and sweet)
Foster Momma was very proud of me and my new friends Auntie Alynn, pretty girl Ayden and baby Navan were so nice to visit with!

I <3 new friends!!! :)

SLEEPOVER!!!

Last night was very special here. As we were getting ready for bedtime, instead of going in my crate with cookies, I was invited UPSTAIRS, into the PEOPLE BED where BestFriend Quinn gets to sleep!!!! WowWowWow!!!
I was a very good boy, watched and did exactly what BestFriend Quinn did and snuggled in nice and calm for the night.
HEAVEN!

I (heart) visitors!

Today I met a special new friend! Kara, now my Auntie Kara (mostly cuz she brought me a deer antler and a smoked bone as big as my huge noggin) came to visit and used her fancy camera to take some photos of the wonderfulness that is me!

B is for Bum!

And C is for couch, and life is soooo good because I'm on the couch using BestFriend Quinn's bum for a pillow!
Goodnight!

B is for Bed . . .

. . or C is now for CUDDLE! You pick!

It all started this morning, Foster Momma said i could come UPSTAIRS (new smells!) but only if i was a good boy. She is busy in the mornings and warned that since BestFriend Quinn was older and wiser than me, that morning is a quiet time for him (he tends not to get rolling til later in the day, silly Elderbull).

So i was practicing my Down-Stay on the dog bed
And BestFriend Quinn was on the PEOPLE bed (which looked way more comfy and fun than where i was, but foster momma told me to lie here, so i did . . . good manners Eugenious, gooood manners)
I waited . . .

and waited . . .
(please note my perfect polite paw placement! har!)

And then, i heard in his quiet and tired morning voice, BestFriend Quinn tell me he was cold, and might like some company on the bed. He said that if he said it was okay, Foster Momma would be okay with it. Well, what the Elderbull says goes . . .
He was right, 2 dogs are warmer than one! BestFriend said it we were really calm and look like we aren't up to no good (because he has also taught me the people bed is one of the BEST places to wrestle, soooo bouncy) ahem, that Foster Momma will think we're resting and let us hang out up there longer . . . see, goooood doggies . . .
I love you BestestFriend Quinn. Not only are you smart and fun but you are cuddly too!
But now I have to go pee . . .!

C is for cookie!

The letter C is quickly becoming my favourite letter of the alphabet! First it was for couch, and now it's for cookies, with FRIENDS!!!
see how nice i'm sitting while all the other dogs are moving around?!

(You're going to want volume for this video!)

I like cookies, and friends :)

Mmmmmm!

this kong tasted extra good as it was in celebration of Rai and Hudson finding foster homes! (Foster Momma may have had a glass of wine to celebrate too ;) Thank you all who read their story and wanted to help. THAT is what rescue is all about (so says Foster Momma). Now we just need a spot for Ursula! SAVE URSULA! (please?! I'll wear antlers . . . . )

So this is Christmas . . .

We haven't talked much about Christmas at home, Foster Momma has been a bit too busy to decorate, and a bit to sad to celebrate. She often hugs me tight and tells me how glad she is I am there. (and believe me, i am too!)

She wants to help more dogs. She wants to help other people help more dogs.

I had a different post prepared for you all, but this was too important not to share. I know its on other websites too, but we really need to get the word out please and thank you.

Thank you!

 So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun . . .

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

If that is, these dogs make it to see December 25th.

(deep breath)

Every year ADR has a "holiday tradition" of saving just ONE more. One more rescued heart to spend christmas eve out of a cold, noisey, scary shelter, and in the safety of a foster home, beginning their journey to their second chance. This year, we are trying to save just THREE more.

(we already introduced you to Ursula last week, still searching for a foster spot for her)

We took a trip to another shelter this weekend. It was pretty basic, pretty depressing  . . . and met two very LOVELY but worried and "broken" dogs. Literally, tears, as our hearts broke knowing they had days to live, if that, and we have no space, and no openings (c'mon foster homes, WHERE ARE YOU???).

First was Hudson. About 2 years old, super sweet, and very personable!

Skinny as all heck, nails overgrown (almost painfully so at this point), he's filthy from his time in impound, and a little scratched up because its all he can do to try and push himself into the neighbouring kennel to be with his best friend (yep, there go the tears again).

Passing his temperment test with flying colours, he is "squishy", just dying for attention, human kindness and touch. It was pretty apparent that somebody at some point wasn't very nice to him (based on startle responses and trying to challenge the poor pooch).

We feel Hudson would do well with another dog playmate (in foster). He a bigger fellow, maybe 60-70lbs at full weight. And no, not a "pit bull". Very much a STUNNING mutt! However, the shelter has deemed him and his best friend as "pit bulls", and will only release them to rescue. So . . .we have to try.

Second came Rai (japanese for trust) - yes, we named them, knowing they probably won't make it to friday of this week, we felt at least, they deserved names . . . (and tears again).

There aren't words for the sadness this poor angel radiated. Recently having pups weaned from her (from what we could discern from her appearance), she is also much too skinny to be able to keep warm/healthy at this type of shelter.

and yes, what you see is what it is. Concrete, cold, similiar to an oversized garage. The dogs don't have outdoor runs, or much daylight let alone fresh air . . . they get large crates and thats about it.

Rai needs love! She needs to be reassured that the world is not the horrible place she has experienced so far, she needs to be cuddled and snuggled and rebuilt into the beautiful pooch we could see in her soul.

She is also about 2 years old. Good with Hudson and passed her tempermant test.

Rai is also not a "pit bull" (translate SAFE for fostering almost anywhere, phew)

We don't like (didn't want) to make such an urgent plea so close to the holidays, and with so much emotion. But we don't know what else to do. These are good dogs, who have done nothing wrong (were strays), who deserve a chance. Who spoke to us and we hope will speak to someone else out there.

Ador-A-Bull provides food, crate, leashes/collar etc, all vet care, and tons of moral support for foster homes. Its a commitment of 1-5 months (it just all depends), but it SAVES A LIFE.

Hudson and Rai have about 48-72 hours to live (so we have been told by the shelter, which is running out of space due to puppy mill raids).

I am not sure how else to put into words how much these dogs touched us, haunted us the whole drive home, and all last night . . .

And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong

Happy Tummy

I get two meals a day. Delicious kibbles that keeps my tummy full and happy. Foster Momma says even though i'm not hers for keeps, its still important that I (and all the rescue dogs) eat good food.

So I would like to take this opportunity to thank the nice people at Market Pet Shop for donating the good quality kibble! And they have told the rescue that they can help again with more kibble, for more dogs, like Ursula! (Foster Momma says the Ursula STILL needs to be saved . . . I can't believe it . . sigh . .somebody, ANYBODY???)

Annnd here is me showing how i can shake both my paws! Just because I can :)

Smarty pants! I know!
Have a great weekend everyone! Hopefully by Monday there will be good news for Ursula, i know my paws are crossed!

C is for Couch!

I have a confession to make. I got stuck to the wall again last night, twice. You see, BestFriend Quinn's ears are soooo tasty and fun to nibble on! And while he never tells me to stop, Foster Momma does. And when I just can't listen because I am having too much fun, we have a "time out".

please note BestFriend is also protesting the end of our fun

However, I learned my lesson and later on got to do my most favourite thing, hang out on the COUCH! There are TWO couches to sit on . .  .

This couch,

And this couch,
And i can sit like this,

Or like this,
Or like this even,
But my favourite was to be is on the couch is like THIS!

curled up as tight as i can in Foster Momma's arm
I think Ursula deserves a couch to curl up on too. Don't you? How are we doing with that friends . . .?
SAVE URSULA! (please)

Pay it Forward

"You are safe, you are loved, and it all gets better from here"

On my first night out of the loud, scary, smelly place Foster Momma kissed my head and said that to me, I will never forget it.

Sometimes when we snuggle before bed she strokes my head as my eyes get sleepy and she tells me stories of what things the future could hold for me. But last night she told me a story about another dog who is in the same spot that I was. Another dog she wants to help like she helped me.

Her name is Ursula (sounds like a nice dog to me!) and she is about the same age and kind of the same fur colour as me (how cool is that! I think i'd like to meet this Ursula).

Foster Momma says in order for her to get a new life like me, that someone has to have Ursula come stay with them (like I am with Foster Momma), but so far nobody wants her . . .  and that makes me sad. I can't imagine still being at the loud scary place, or worse (gasp).

So i'd like to ask you friends to help! Could you, would you, take a chance on a dog like me (a very good idea in my humble hippo opinion! I mean just look how i'm turning out!). Could you maybe spread the word and ask your friends?! Could we let as many people as we know about Ursula and that she needs a place to stay for a little bit?

Tell ya what! I'll take the cause to the doggie community, if you can all talk to the humans. Deal?!

Not a bad start huh?! Now lets see what you got!

Ursula is a 1.5 (approx) spayed female STUNNING-SMILEY Mix. She is dog friendly, and seems to know some basic commands. Ursula is in need of a foster home (a 1-3 month commitment), Ador-A-Bull Dog Rescue supplies food, crate, collar, leash, etc, and covers the vet bills. You provide the time and love. Interested?
